Step 1: Prepare the Collard Greens

  • Roll the stack of leaves tightly like a cigar and then slice them crosswise into 1-2 inch wide ribbons.

  • In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the vegetable oil or bacon grease over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
